Canada wins gold at UANA Cup

Water Polo Canada - MARKHAM, Ont. – Jared McElroy of Calgary scored four goals including the game-winner as Canada defeated Brazil 8-6 to earn the gold medal in men’s competition on Sunday at the UANA Cup water polo tournament.
The tournament was played at the new Atos Markham Pan Am / Parapan Am Center built for this summer’s Games in Toronto.
Also Canada and Brazil earned a berth for this summer’s FINA World Championships in Russia with top-two finishes.
The Canadians trailed 6-5 going into the fourth quarter but John Conway of Ottawa tied the match with his second of the game and McElroy fired the last two goals with 4:15 and 3:29 remaining. Also scoring for Canada was Kevin Graham of Regina with two.
Canada assured itself a top-two finish by hammering Argentina 17-3 in Saturday’s semifinal.  Nicholas Constantin-Bicari of Montreal, Scott Robinson of Calgary and Conway led the winners with three goals apiece.
